02/18/17 17:47 Basic Information Mr. Bohannon is an approximately 1yr 6month old neutered male white & brown tabby domestic short hair mix. He is being surrendered because the owner is allergic to him. He was given to the owner as a gift from a friend. Mr. Bohannon has no health problems and was last taken to a vet in 2015. Socialization Around strangers, Mr. Bohannon is somewhat shy with strangers for a little while but eventually comes out of hiding to see the strangers. He has lived with children between the ages of 1 and 6 years old, Mr. Bohannon is okay with them but often attempts to hide from them. He has never lived with other pets so the owner has no idea how Mr. Bohannon would behave around them. Mr. Bohannon has never bitten or scratched anyone. Behavior Mr. Bohannon has never had any litter box problems and uses the litter box daily. Mr. Bohannon struggles when the owner tries to give him a bath, he does not mind having his nails trimmed, enjoys brushing, but does struggle when being held put in a carrier. For a new family to know The owner describes Mr. Bohannon shy and independent. He has a Medium activity level. Mr. Bohannon loves to eat and sleep most of the day. Around the house, he tends to keep to himself but does seek attention from the owner sometimes. He has played with ball and wand cat toys. He sleeps mostly indoors on a cat bed or on the couch. Mr. Bohannon was being fed nine lives brand dry cat food 2 times a day. Mr. Bohannon uses an open litter box with clumping cat litter every day and never has accidents. When left alone Mr. Bohannon sometimes scratches on furniture (mostly on the owners couch). Intake Behavior: Mr Bohannon allowed to be scanned then swatted and hissed when I attempted to remove his home collar. To not further upset Mr Bohannon I allowed him to walk out of the box he was brought in into his kennel where he retreated to the back with a hunched/low body position. Due to his behavior as of now I haven’t been able to remove his collar, place our collar on him or take his picture on the backdrop but it was taken in his kennel.

ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Shy, Sweet at times, Skittish, Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: _x_ Fearful – Mr. Bohannon has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and has displayed distance-increasing behavior with extended handling. Fear aggression can occur when a cat perceives a threat and may escalate if they cannot escape. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus. RECOMMENDATIONS: _x_ Experienced, adult home only – Mr. Bohannon tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home who understands this cat may need time to warm up to his new home and family at his own pace.

A volunteer writes: Mr. Bohannon is an adorable playful guy. He likes human company and relishes a good chin rub. He can get over stimulated and will let you know with the tap of his paw, so he would do best with experienced cat owners who give him his space when he asks for it. Of course, having a home where he can exercise and have some space of his own could be all he needs to be a happy boy. So, if you are a person who “gets” cats and can provide this big lunk with some playtime… and downtime, then you might be just the right match for this handsome guy.
