05/14/2017 PET PROFILE MEMO
05/14/17 20:06 Basic: Moty is a 4.5 year old female spayed dsh. Her owner got her as a gift and has had her for 4 years. She has no injuries or health problems and was last seen by a vet in September 2016. Her owner has to relinquish her because she has been acting nervous around the owner and scratching her. Socialization: Around strangers Moty is fearful. She will allow herself to be petted if she comes over to them. Her owner keeps her on a leash when people are over. She has never spent time with children. She plays with adults exuberantly and loves to play with her plush fish toy. She has not spent time around other cats or dogs. She lives with a bird and does not notice him. She has bitten her owner a few times but never broke skin. She has never bitten another animal. Behavior: Moty often scratches people and hides in fear at home. She meows when she wants to be fed. She enjoys rides in the car and has been on a plane and enjoyed that too. She has not litter box problems. Moty isn’t bothered when her owner gives her a weekly bath/ gets a nail trim/is picked up and held/is put in the carrier/is disturbed while sleeping. She has never been brushed. For new family: Owner describes Moty as affectionate, confident, shy and fearful. Her activity level is high. Her owner loves that Moty knows how to play fetch with cat toys. She likes to play fetch and play with her plush fish toy that has bells on it. When her owner is home Moty will follow her around and sit near her. She has been kept mostly indoors, but sometimes Moty’s owner will walk her on the leash to the park and will let her sniff. She sleeps in her own basket bed with a towel. She likes any brand of dry food and gets fed morning and night. She likes any kind of crunchy treat. She is litter box trained and likes to use an uncovered litter box with clumping unscented litter. She likes to scratch on her vertical scratching post made of rough rope and cardboard. During Intake: Moty was hissing and swatting at the admissions counselor. She did not allow handling/collaring. Admissions counselor had to place her in a feral den.

05/17/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Skittish, Timid KNOWN HISTORY: Lived Indoors Previously lived with: an adult and a bird (Moty pays no mind to it) Behavior toward strangers: fearful Litter box training: yes Other notes: described Moty as affectionate, confident, shy and fearful. Her activity level is high. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 5/15/17- Subjective: Swatting and growling in carrier ENRICHMENT NOTES: 5/15/17- Previously admitted as DOH. In feral den on approach, peeking through holes. Tolerated brief pets, then hissed quietly and tapped assess-a-hand without claws. Showed no interest in treats or leaving den. 5/16/17-Briefly at the front, looking around. Sniffed hand and rubbed against the bars. Still a bit wary. Later, in feral den, head poking out. Pulled away from assess-a-hand, retreated all the way inside den, lay down. Came slowly to front again on second visit, sniffed hand between the bars. Seems very concerned with room noise. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Moty looks tense crouched position hiding in the cat den when approached. Reaction to cage door opening: Moty becomes stiff in place with eyes dilated. Reaction to touch: Moty briefly allows the touch then pats the assessor’s hand and hisses to stop the interaction. BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Moty may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: _x_ Very high energy level Moty’s owner reports she is very active in the home. She may pounce and attack their feet when walking by at times. She appears to be an active young cat that would benefit from increased mental and physical stimulation to appropriately direct her energy. We recommend using fishing pole-type toys as they allow for vigorous and stimulating exercise. Puzzle feeders will also keep her engaged and exercise her brain in addition to her body. BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Average Moty interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for new or experienced cat parents.
