02/14/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Moon Shadow was brought in with limited information on her behavioral tendencies in a home environment. She lived in a home with lots of other cats and would try to flee when approached. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Quiet, crouched to table, allows all handling ENRICHMENT NOTES: In litter box, extremely tense. Head down, eyes dilated, ears sideways. Flinched when door opened, head immobile when pet. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is slightly re-arranged Reaction to assessor: Moon Shadow was lying down flat, trying to hide behind a crease from her folded bedding. Reaction when softly spoken to: Moon Shadow focuses on the assessor with her ears tilted slightly sideways. Reaction to cage door opening: Moon Shadow remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Moon Shadow remains completely immobile and allows petting on her bed and body. She is very tense, but does not display any further reaction. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Shy, Timid POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: _X_ Fearful – Moon Shadow has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and may have not been properly socialized with people. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him/her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus. RECOMMENDATIONS: _x_ Experienced cat parent – Tierra tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. Her finder reports she has done well in their home, so we believe she will do well in a home environment. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
