Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Montegro was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. He displayed fearful behaviors during his initial medical exam; hissing and attempting to flee. Reaction to assessor: Montegro was inside a den upon approach. Reaction when softly spoken to: Montegro peers out from a hole with dilated eyes. Reaction to cage door opening: Montegro lowers his body and continues to hide inside the den. Reaction to touch: Montegro was unable to be coaxed out of his den. He does not allow petting and continues to hide to avoid touch. Behavior Determination: New Hope Only Montegro is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. He is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
