07/26/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Lived Indoors Previously lived with: Adults and children Behavior toward strangers: Friendly and outgoing Behavior toward children: Tolerant Behavior toward cats: Spent time around a male cat and would display distance increasing behaviors Behavior toward dogs: Unknown Bite or Scratch history: Yes, she bit and scratched the owner’s son Litter box training: Yes Energy level/descriptors: Playful, and friendly at times with a medium activity level. Other notes: She doesn’t mind having her nails trimmed and will struggle to get away when held. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Allows exam ENRICHMENT NOTES: 07/19/17 Sitting upright in kennel, vocalizing softly and making eye contact with ears forward, eyes alert. She tolerates petting along her head and body while leaning back and licking her lips, eyes open wide and staring ahead. 07/21/17 Very vocal & rolling around playfully at the front. Kneading on her blanket, relaxed body. She perks up when called then rubs her body against the cage door. She steps back and lowers her body when I tried interacting with her. Her body perks up when touched, gets more comfortable then leans in when rubbed on her cheeks. Erect tail, her body feels a bit tense when pet. She’s very food motivated- loves tuna. Starting to become more comfortable with petting/attention. 07/23/17 At front of kennel, head-butting kennel door and vocalizing as I approach. She allows petting along her head and body, leaning in. She nudges past my hand and is focused on trying to get out of her kennel. Not interested in treats today. Restless – more focused on trying to jump down out of her kennel than being pet or interacted with at the moment. 07/25/17 At front of kennel, vocalizing softly. She allows petting along her head and body, backing up and tapping her back feet, tail lowered. Seems like she may be in heat. Still focused on her environment. Leans in and pauses to look outside the room – focusing on entrance. 07/26/17 Momo became very reactive when she heard another cat in the room hiss. She started yowling, her body became fully pilo-erect and she started displaying distance increasing behaviors. I gave her a cage cover and left her alone. I came back after an hour to check on her- she was still stress meowing but calmed down a bit when spoken to softly. She approaches the front, sniffs then rubs up for attention. She accepts petting with a slow approach but was still a little upset.
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Lively VOCAL: Talkative CHARACTER TYPE: Affectionate, Sweet RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced, adult home only – Momo tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. She may have some behavioral issues that will need to be addressed in the home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home. No other cats OR multi-cat home with adopters experienced with introducing new cats – Momo remains social and easy to handle with her human caretakers, but please be aware that Momo may be uncomfortable around other cats. Their previous owner reports she displays distance increasing behaviors around other cats and she has been noted to yowl and become upset whenever she notices a neighboring cat. Due to the described behaviors, we recommend Momo goes to a home with no other cats OR into a multi-cat home with cat parents experienced with introducing new cats slowly and gradually over a long period of time.
