***GONE 10/07/17*** SWEET 9 YEAR OLD MISU HAS A MAMMARY TUMOR AND NEEDS A RESCUE ANGEL TONIGHT! Misu lost her home when owner got sick. She lived with adults and children. Misu is nervous in the shelter and needs someone to give her a home and some much needed vet care. PLEASE HELP MISU AND RESERVE HER BY NOON!!

Hello, my name is Misu. My animal id is #7761. I am a female white cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks i am about 9 years old. – P
I came into the shelter as a data import – incoming on 01-Oct-2017.

Misu is at risk with an Adult-Only behavior determination, and with a medical condition (see notes below). She has allowed some touch and petting but remains uncomfortable and has shown possible overstimulation with extended interactions.

09/30/17 14:14 DVM Intake Exam Estimated age: reported to be 9 years Microchip noted on Intake? History : Subjective: Observed Behavior – hissing, swatting, striking Evidence of Cruelty seen – no Evidence of Trauma seen – no Objective T = P = R = BCS 5/9 EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean, no nasal discharge noted, no URI signs Oral Exam: unable to examine due to behavior PLN: unable to examine due to behavior H/L: difficult to ascult through net and with growling/vocalizing – no overt abnormalities ABD: unable to examine due to behavior U/G: reported female – unable to confirm due to behavior MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat CNS: mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Rectal: not performed Assessment ~9 year old (reported) female cat reported intact (unable to confirm sex or spay/neuter status due to behavior) apparently healthy Plan: OK to schedule spay Prognosis: Good SURGERY: Okay for surgery
Patient was sedated in preparation for surgery Physical exam perform after sedated due to temperment BAR before sedation Clear OU/AU, nndc OP wnl PLN wnl H/L reg, no obvious murmur, ssp, lungs clear/eupenic ABD snp MSK amb x 4 prior to sedation Integ 8 mm mammary mass associated with right caudal mammary gland BCS 5/9 UG f/i, mammary gland mass (see above) Neuro sedate but prior was alert and appropriate A:Mammary gland mass, right caudal mammary gland Otherwise apparently healthy P:Waive/hold off on surgery CXR 3 V performed-no evidence of metastasis Recommend NH placement, should have surgery for spay and to remove mammary gland +/- associated chain Guarded long-term prognosis (80% chance malignant, 20% chance benign)

Behavior Assessment Date: 10/4/2017 KNOWN HISTORY: The former owner stated around strangers Misu is shy for a few minutes, sometimes for a while. She has spent time with children in the home, ages 3-6. She is usually tolerant of them. She does not play with children and when she plays with adults she is exuberant. She has not spent time with other cats or other pets. Misu is described as a friendly, affectionate, mellow, shy, fearful, independent and quiet cat. Her activity level is medium. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 9/30/17- Observed Behavior: hissing, swatting, striking ENRICHMENT NOTES: N/A Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Misu remains tense, crouched position at the back of the cage. Reaction when softly spoken to: Misu remains immobile in place with eyes wide open. Reaction to cage door opening: Misu stiffens up, ears erect and forward. Reaction to touch: Misu briefly allows the stroke, but hisses and focuses on the assessor’s hand when touched along the back. Reaction to being picked up: Unable to perform do to behavior. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Bold Curious POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: None Potential challenges comments: N/A BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: Experienced, adult only Behavior Asilomar TM – Treatable-Manageable RECOMMENDATIONS: None Recommendations comments: N/A BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Misu tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home who understands this cat may need time to warm up to her new home and family at her own pace.
