The family cannot keep because their daughter is very allergic – but Misty was very gentle and loved to play with the little girl. Misty is scared of this new environment and needs a patient person who will welcome her into their home and give her time to decompress. Misty A1117136 is at risk due to behavior. Previous owner reports Misty is shy around strangers and will hide. She remains in her cat den when approached, but will poke her head out and seems curious of her surroundings. She displays distance-increasing behaviors when petting is attempted, however, and will pat the assessor’s hand to prevent touch.

07/01/17 16:18 Basic: Misty is a 4 year old spayed domestic shorthair. Misty was given to the owner by a friend. Misty’s owner passed away about a week ago and the owner’s family members have been caring for her in that time. The family member’s daughter is extremely allergic to Misty so they are unable to keep her at home. Misty has no known illnesses, she went to the mobile vet about a year ago for a check. Socialization: When Misty encounters strangers, she is shy and she hides. Misty has spent bursts of time with an 8 year old girl with whom she played very gently with. Misty was described as very gentle and affectionate toward the young girl. Misty plays gently with adults. Misty has never been around other cats or dogs. Misty has never bitten or scratched another animal or person. Behavior: When Misty is in a car, she is very relaxed and she is not bothered when she is put in a carrier. Misty has never taken a bath or had her nails trimmed. For a New Family to Know: Misty is very playful and she loves to play with the little girl she saw from time to time. Misty has a moderate activity level. Misty does not play with toys. Misty has been an indoors only cat her entire life. Misty has her own bed that she sleeps on. For feeding, Misty eats Purina and Friskies dry and wet – she does not have a schedule, she is free fed. Misty uses a hooded litterbox and uses clay litter. Upon intake, Misty allowed being collared, having her picture taken, and was at the front of the carrier. Misty was purring and rubbing her head against the counselor’s hand the entire time. Misty walked willingly to the transport carrier.

Misty has a moderate activity level. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Misty remains neutral, crouched position, hiding in the cat den. Reaction to cage door opening: Misty seems curious, peeking out with eyes wandering. Reaction to touch: Misty began to hiss and paw (claws not exposed) at the assessor’s hand avoiding contact. BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Misty is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. She is stressed in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
