07/28/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
As pre previous owner, Missy Elliot is described as shy around strangers. When visitors come to the home she is fearful and will hide. She has lived with four adults and two children. She is described as respectful around the children and does not engage in play. She has never been around other dogs or cats. Our enrichment facilitator has interacted with Missy Elliot and at the time she was in the cat den. Missy Elliot had a tense body. She hisses then pops out of the cat den and makes eye contact. Missy Elliot leans forward to sniff hand. Reaction to assessor: Missy Elliot was hiding in the cat den when I approached the cage When spoken quietly: Missy Elliot continues to hide Reaction to door cage opening: Missy Elliot hisses Reaction to touch: Missy Elliot hisses and allows limited petting Try picking cat up: Did not attempt Behavior Determination: NewHope Missy Elliot was brought to the care center as a stray so we don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies previous to what we are seeing during the evaluation. Missy Elliot seems to not be thriving in this environment and at the time of the assessment she was displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and may require further investigation before placement in a home. She is extremely fearful and currently does not tolerate much petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
