07/07/17 11:26 Basic: Missy is a 10 year old large spayed DSH cat. Her owner got her as a gift when she was a kitten and has had her for 10 years. She is surrendering Missy because her buildings management changed and pets are no longer allowed. Missy has never had any injuries or health problems and has not been to the vet since she was spayed, which was around 10 years ago. Socialization: Missy has spent her life with one owner in the home and visiting family members. Missy is shy for a few minutes around strangers. She has spent time with her owner’s grandchild who is now 10 years old. Missy it tolerant and respectful of him and does not try to play with him or interact with him much. She plays exuberantly with adults. She has never been around other pets (cats, dogs, etc). She does not have a bite history. Behavior: Missy is very well behaved at home except she does scratch the furniture and the walls a lot, she has never had a scratching post. She meows during car rides. She has never had issues with using the litterbox. Missy has never had a bath or a nail trim. She enjoys being brushed. She allows herself to be picked up and held, but will struggle to get away when she’s had enough. She struggles when being put in a carrier. She isn’t bothered when disturbed while resting. For New Family: Missy is described as mellow, friendly, playful, quiet, independent and shy. Her activity level is medium. Her owner loves how Missy will let her know when a family member has come home. She will run to her owner and sit with her, and her owner understands someone has come in to the house. She also loves to play with her owner’s feet and other family member’s feet. She likes to play with ball toys and will be in the same room as her owner. She has been kept indoors only and has never been outside. She sleeps on the sofa or the rug in the living room. She likes wet and dry food and goes crazy for Temptation treats. She is litterbox trained and uses a hooded litterbox with Fresh Step clumping litter. She uses the furniture and walls to trim her nails and has never had a scratching post. During intake Missy was nervous with dilated pupils. She was hissing at the counselor and the counselor did not handle or collar.

Energy level/descriptors: Missy is described as mellow, friendly, playful, quiet, independent and shy with a medium activity level. Other notes: Missy is very well behaved at home except she does scratch the furniture and the walls a lot, however she has never owned a scratching post. She enjoys being brushed. Visual exam performed and limited exam in Freeman net. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Missy becomes stiff and alert upon approach, and looks around with dilated eyes. Reaction when softly spoken to: Missy focuses on the assessor and hisses. Reaction to cage door opening: Missy hisses again and leans backwards. Reaction to touch: Missy hisses and begins to growl. She does not allow contact and will strike to avoid touch. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Shy, Independent RECOMMENDATIONS: – Placement with a New Hope partner – Missy is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. She has tried to swat, is extremely fearful in the shelter environment, and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
