09/16/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Miss Kitty lived previously with 1 adult. She is noted to be tolerant around children (aged 4 and up). She is described as aloof, shy, mellow, affectionate, and very calm. Miss Kitty was fearful at intake, hissing and hiding. She swatted at the medical team through the carrier during her initial medical examination. Miss Kitty seems to be struggling to acclimate to the shelter environment, as she continues to hide in her cage and avoids interaction. Reaction to assessor: Miss Kitty is hiding under her blanket, body tense, when the assessor approaches. Reaction to cage door opening: Remains in place, tense. Reaction to touch: When the blanket is moved, Miss Kitty is crouching with eyes wide, ears low, body tense. She retreats from the assessor’s outstretched hand, hisses, and continues moving slowly backward. Placement determination: New Hope Only Miss Kitty’s previous owner describes a shy and affectionate cat with no known history of behavioral issues, but she is not thriving in the shelter environment. Her current behavior preclues placement in the adoptions room, as Miss Kitty does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
