Mishu’s former owner reported her to be friendly around strangers, especially if they give her food or treats. During intake, Mishu was nervous to walk out onto the table until counselor opened food. She then allowed petting and collaring, and allowed to be picked up to be put back in a carrier. Mishu lived with two children, aged 2 and 4. Mishu would hide from the 4 year old who was very rough with her, but loved to sleep near the 2 year old and spend lots of time cuddling him. When Mishu has been introduced to cats, she would hide, but she has never lived with another cat. Mishu has never met a dog. Reaction to assessor: Mishu looks tense, crouched position on her cage bedding when approached by the assessor. Reaction to door opening: Mishu remains in place, hisses, alert with eyes wide open. Reaction to touch: Mishu began to growl, retreat, and swat at the assessor’s hand. Placement determination: NH ONLY Mishu is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room. She is stressed in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
