SAFE 11/6/17 **Lovely Young Long-Haired Calico Had Emergency Spay Yesterday! Magnificat MINNIE Needs You at BACC!** MINNIE was brought in as a stray. She had a closed pyometra infection which was resolved by spay surgery. She still has some diarrhea and is a bit dehydrated. Minnie will need some follow up care and a new home!

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:
Observed Behavior – very sweet but tense and nervous. Easily handleable. Did well for all medical handling and procedures

Reaction to assessor:
Minnie was lying down, calm and relaxed.
Reaction when softly spoken to:
Minnie blinks and lip licks, and then rubs her cheeks onto her blanket and rolls over.
Reaction to cage door opening:
Minnie remains motionless and blinks softly.
Reaction to touch:
Minnie is a bit hesitant, but she sniffs the assessor’s hand and accepts petting. Her body is kept low and her ears tilt sideways, but she closes her eyes and seems to appreciate gentle attention. When coaxed, she will roll over and lean in for cheek rubs.
Reaction to being picked up:
Minnie shifts away to avoid being picked up and wraps her tail tightly on her body.

Minnie was an indoor / outdoor cat and lived with 5 other cats so it is uncertain how her litter box habits are.
Basic Information:
Minnie was surrendered by her owners niece as the owner is elderly and could not care for all the animals in the home any longer. She is a 1 year old, DSH female, who was not spayed prior to coming into the shelter.

Owner as an indoor/ outdoor cat

Minnie is described as being typically friendly with strangers.

Minnie has spent time around children and will tolerate being around them, but she does not overly seek attention from them.
How is this cat around other cats?
Minnie lived with 5 other cats, but as they were all indoor / outdoor cats they did not interact often and were reported as not being over friendly together
How is this cat around dogs?
Minnie lived with a small dog but the dog was afraid of the cats and would not interact with them.
Behavior Notes
Minnie’s owner never bathed, groomed her, or trimmed her nails. At time she will allow her owner to pick her up and put her in a carrier.

Additional Comments: Post-op inspection of uterus – total 5 feti. Four normal small feti noted in 4 normal sacs- ribs seen but must not have been mineralized yet to be visualized on xray. One small sac containing one small devitalized disintegrating fetus; amniotic fluid in sac was brown and slightly cloudy.
No pyometra. Suspect dead fetus being resorbed, possibly leading to leukocytosis.
