MIMI – A1120921
Safe - 8-12-2017 Manhattan
***SAFE 08/12/17*** MARVELOUS MIMI PLAYED GENTLY WITH CHILDREN AND WAS FRIENDLY AND TALKATIVE IN HER FORMER HOME!! Mimi’s owner brought her to the shelter and requested euthanasia because his 13 yr old unspayed cat was supposedly having litterbox issues. She was not displaying any signs of illness but the shelter recommended bloodwork done to see if there was a medical reason for her behavior. Maybe the owner didn’t clean the box? Please give this pretty calico girl a chance for a new home. MUST RESERVE HER BY NOON!!

08/05/2017 PET PROFILE MEMO
08/05/17 12:50 Basic Information: Mimi is a 13 year old Female Domestic Shorthair. She was given to the owner as a gift from her neighbor who had kittens. Unfortunately, due to pet health the owner couldn’t keep her anymore. Socialization: Mimi is respectful and relaxed around the 2 adults and children ages 16 and 7 years old. She plays gently with adults and children but when strangers come around she may shy away for a few minutes but then come out and sniff them. Mimi has never been around other animals so the owners are unsure how she will react around them. Behavior: Mimi has been having litter box accidents lately for the past couple of weeks but before that she was using it with no accidents. She had accidents a few times a day both with pee and poop. The owners think it may be due to old age or a urinary problem. The owner has only given Mimi a bath with she was a kitten and she was fine with it. She isn’t bothered when getting brushed, being picked up, or being disturbed while sleeping but she will struggle when you try to clip her nails or put her in a carrier. For a New Family to Know: Mimi is a friendly, affectionate, independent, talkative cat. She is medium energy and loves to play with crinkly toys like candy wrappers and laser pointers. She loves to eat and sleep on the bed with you and will follow you around when you are home. She is an indoor cat only and may use the couch to stretch out. She is litter boxed trained but has been having accidents recently. She has been using a hooded litter box with clay litter. Upon intake, Mimi allowed minimal handling. She was a bit tense and didn’t really look at counselor. She remained in carrier but allowed counselor to pet her every so often. She was not collared due to her being a hissy and not wanting to stress her out more.

ACTIVITY LEVEL: Steady VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Shy, Independent KNOWN HISTORY: Lived Indoors Previously lived with: 2 adults and children ages 16 and 7 years old Behavior toward strangers: she may shy away for a few minutes but then come out and sniff them Behavior toward children: respectful and relaxed Bite or Scratch history: none Litter box training: Previous owners report that she was eliminating urinating and defecating outside the litter box for a couple of weeks. We are unaware of what, if any, modifications steps were taken to try and address this behavior in the home, so we cannot be sure what the trigger may have been or if this behavior may continue in a future home. However, we recommend that potential adopters be comfortable with management and modification techniques for elimination outside the litter box should this behavior continue in a home environment. Energy level/descriptors: medium energy Other notes: The previous owner described Mimi friendly, affectionate, independent, talkative cat. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Observed Behavior – allowed most handling, became mildly fractious ENRICHMENT NOTES: 8/6/17 Crouched in litter box, eyes dilated, very tense. Hissed and repeatedly struck door when shown hand. Left alone for now. 8/7/17 Resting on bedding in main compartment, very tense, eyes fully dilated, whiskers forward. Growled when shown hand. Hissed, growled, nipped offered assess-a-hand. Food appears uneaten, single tiny, jagged stool in litter box. Reaction to touch: Mimi hisses when touched and distance increases while remaining cautious with her surroundings. BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Mimi may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home who understands this cat may need time to warm up to her new home and family at her own pace.
