Hello, my name is Mimi. My animal id is #15972. I am a desexed female brown tabby cat at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 13 years old. – P
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 12-Dec-2017, with the surrender reason stated as person health – allergies.
Mimi is at risk for behavior concerns (Experience determination). Mimi leans in for petting, but will show signs of stress during the interaction. She will stress meow and whip around when the she has had enough attention.

Mimi was a little nervous during intake, keeping a low body and stress licking but allowed for minimal handling by counselor.

Basic Information:: Mimi is a 13 year old, DSH female, she was spayed prior to coming into the shelter and has no known health issues or injuries. She has not seen a vet recently and was surrendered due to the child in the home having allergies to her.
Previously lived with:: In home with owner and 1 child
How is this cat around strangers?: Mimi is shy when strangers first come in the house but she then warms up after a few minutes of adjusting. She will approach after a little bit and will sniff their legs and then rub against them.
How is this cat around children?: Mimi has lived with one young child in her previous home and was very relaxed and respectful around her.
How is this cat around other cats?: Mimi has not spent time with other cats.
How is this cat around dogs?: Mimi has not spent time with dogs.
Behavior Notes: Mimi’s owner stated he has not been able to bathe or trim her nails as she will struggle to get away. She tolerates being brushed for short periods of time and does not allow them to hold her.
Bite history:: Mimi has no bite history.
Energy level/descriptors:: Medium
For a New Family to Know: Mimi is described as being friendly, but more on the independent, aloof side. She will stay in her favorite spot most of the day and likes to play with string or wand toys and has been an indoor cat. She sleeps wherever in the home and eats dry food. She is litter box trained to use a hooded box and clumping litter. She likes to scratch on carpet.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Hissed once, slightly tense, allowed handling
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 12/13/17 Standing in back of kennel with a relaxed body. She arches her back and raises her tail when pet along the head and body. Leans in for further petting while stress meowing, tail becoming entirely pilo-erect. She allows all petting for duration of session, stress meowing and mumbling each time my hand passes along her back. Turns her head back to head-butt hand. Showing signs of petting-induced aggression but seems to have a high tolerance. 12/14/17 Social and friendly- comes forward to greet the assessor. She accepts gentle petting but will occasionally whip around and vocalize when pet along her body for an extended period of time. Seems to dislike extensive handling but doesn’t display any further reaction. Slowly starts to warm up, tail quivers. She gives head butts and rubs against the assessor’s arm. Tolerates being picked up- whines and scrambles to be put down.
Cage Condition:: Cage is recently cleaned
Reaction to assessor:: Mimi was relaxed and lying down in the back of the kennel.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Mimi seems curious and slowly approaches the front of the kennel to interact with the assessor.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Mimi is calm and relaxed.
Reaction to touch:: Mimi sniffs the assessor, then leans in rubs on her head and cheeks. Her tail sways and gradually becomes more intense the longer you interact with her. She allows all petting but stress meows and whips around each time the assessor’s hand passes along her back. She’s very tolerant of handling and displays appropriate warning signs when she shows discomfort.
Reaction to being picked up:: Mimi was tense when picked up, then got antsy and leaped back into the kennel.
