Hello, my name is Milo. My animal id is #17117. I am a desexed male brown tabby cat at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 4 years old. – P
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 28-Dec-2017, with the surrender reason stated as person health – allergies.
Milo is at risk for behavior concerns (Experience determination). Milo has been fearful in care center and has displayed distance-increasing behavior. Milo accepts some petting, but will show discomfort when the cat has had enough attention.

DVM Intake Exam Estimated age: ~4 years Microchip noted on Intake? negative History : o/s. Reported by owner had a PU 3 years ago and may be deaf but did not bring any records in. Subjective: BARH. Seems responsive to audible stimuli Observed Behavior – allowed gentle handling but tried to lift tail and became very irritated and started growling. When tried to give vaccine fled and had to use net for rest of procedures. Evidence of Cruelty seen – no Evidence of Trauma seen – no Objective P = wnl R = eupneic BCS 7/9 EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean, no nasal discharge noted Oral Exam: clean adult dentition, no oral lesions noted PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupneic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: MN, very sensitive around the perineal area so limited exam, unable to tell if PU in past MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat, overweight CNS: mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Assessment: Apparently healthy Overweight Plan: Continue to monitor while at BACC Rec weight loss Prognosis: Excellent SURGERY: neutered

Behavior Notes: Milo has no known behavior issues that the owner has noticed.

Medical Notes: Milo had a penectomy two years ago; she did not have any paperwork. Milo is possibly deaf.
For a New Family to Know: Milo is described as a friendly and affectionate cat. He has a medium activity level. He loves to hide and play in boxes. Milo enjoys playing with wand toys. He was kept indoors only. Milo was fed Blue Buffalo dry food and Fancy Feast Medley wet food. He was provided with an uncovered litter box with clumping clay.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Allowed gentle handling but tried to lift tail and became very irritated and started growling.
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 01/02/18 Lying on top of kuranda bed, body tense with tail wrapped around feet. He turns his head slowly as I reach towards him and leans away, ears tilting. He tolerates petting initially, then begins to lean in and raise his rear and tail as my hand passes along his back. He warms up with continued petting and steps forward to head-butt my hand, body softening. Makes eye contact with soft eyes. Sweet boy – warms up once approached. Did well today! 01/03/18 Lying in front of kennel, body relaxed and ears forward. He remains calm as the cage door opens and allows petting along his head and body while leaning in. Makes eye contact with soft eyes. Allows all petting for duration of session – doing great! Showing improvement daily.
Cage Condition:: Cage is recently cleaned
Reaction to assessor:: Milo was tense and curled up on top his kuranda bed.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Milo makes eye contact with the assessor, but wouldn’t get up or come forward when coaxed.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Milo remains motionless.
Reaction to touch:: Milo appears hesitant when first approached, but he slowly leans forward and sniffs the assessor’s hand. He perks up when pet along his back, gives head butts and appreciates slow, gentle pets along his body. He shifts his body weight and rolls around when nuzzling against the assessor’s hand, but still seems a bit unsure of his surroundings and stays near the back of the cage where he feels comfortable.
