Hello, my name is Miku. My animal id is #18443. I am a desexed male orange tabby cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 3 years old. – P
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 16-Jan-2018, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- moving – out of country.
Original Location: 10472
Miku is at risk due to medical condition, recently diagnosed with an Upper Respiratory Infection. There are no behavior concerns for Miku at this time, average behavior determination.

Owner surrender yesterday, was asymptomatic on intake exam but noted to be persistently sneezing today S/O -QAR, appears shy but docile -mild serous nasal, sneezing -OU: mild conjunctivitis -appears eupnic A 1. URI/conjunctivitis, suspect viral secondary to stress P -move to isolation -terramycin OU BID x 7 days -suspect viral URI at this time so will not add antibiotics unless mucoid nasal discharge develops or course is prolonged/severe

Miku was stiff bodied during intake he was struggling when I picked him up and was looking to dart away when i was trying to take his picture. When i put him in the kennel he was meowing every time i passed by but would go to the back if i approached him.

Basic Information:: Miku is a male Orange and white Tabby that is estimated to be 4 years old. His previous owner found him as a stray 4 years ago and kept him until he had to move out of the country and was unable to take his pets with him.
Previously lived with:: 1 Adult, 1 Cat
How is this cat around strangers?: Miku is she around strangers he tends to run away from people when they com into the home until they visit a few times.
How is this cat around children?: Miku was not around children in his previous home.
How is this cat around other cats?: Miku lived with another cat and was very friendly and affectionate with him. They would spend most of their time together and would usually only play with each other.
How is this cat around dogs?: Miku was not around dogs in his previous home.
Behavior Notes: Miku tends to hide in fear when someone comes into the home or if he hears a loud noise he will run and hide until he feels safe. He does not enjoy car rides and will meow and cry the entire time hes in a car. His owner has never bathed or brushed Miku. He does enjoys being picked up and held and will kneed on your when your picking him up.
Bite history:: Miku has no history of having bitten another person or animal.

For a New Family to Know: Miku is a shy cat that enjoys laying around people following them into each room they go to. He likes to lay down on his favorite sports around the house and play with other cats and stuffed toys. He is used to being Indoors all day and eats dry food. He is very litter box trained and uses a covered litter box. He does like to use vertical rope scratching posts to trim his nails.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: 1/17 Observed Behavior -allows exam
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 1/17/18 Curled up at back of cubby, tense posture, eyes dilated. Lay in place when door opened, tolerated pets, but turned head away and pressed face into corner. 1/18/18 A little better today. Crouched at back of cubby, head down, eyes dilated, seemed wary. Lay in place when door opened. Allowed and slightly leaned into pets, slowly extended neck for throat scratches, remained unsure.

Reaction to assessor:: Miku remains neutral, crouched down on his cage bedding during the approach.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Miku becomes alert with eyes wide open.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Miku remains immobile in place, ears erect and forward.
Reaction to touch:: Miku allows the touch and slowly leans into the assessor’s hand while purring.
Reaction to being picked up:: He becomes antsy then jumps back into the cage.
