ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Shy, Sweet MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 5/18/17- allowed handling ENRICHMENT NOTES: 5/18/17- Resting in litter box, awake but head down. Tiny flinch whenever touched. Tolerated pets, but lip licked and kept face hidden. 5/21/17- Crouched in litter box, Eyes became dilated, lowered head when door opened. Actually leaned into pets today! Lifted rear for butt scratches. Posture softened and eyes became less dilated. 5/22/17- In litter box, a little tense, but more responsive to touch today. Leaned and arched into pets, lifted rear for butt scratches. Easily picked up, but became anxious and quickly jumped back into kennel. Hid under kuranda bed, behind bedding. 5/23/17- Huge improvement! Still in litter box on approach, brief hesitation, then became very affectionate. Repeatedly head-butted, leaned and arched into pets, and purred. Started slow blinking after door closed. 5/24/17- Still in litter box on approach. Brief hesitation, then once again became very affectionate. Head-butted, leaned, and arched into pets, purred. Lured slowly to the front with more pets. Stayed briefly at the front after door closed, sniffed hand between bars, then went back to litter box. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Michelle seems tense, tucked limbs during the approach. Reaction to cage door opening: Michelle ears are erect and forward, immobile. Reaction to touch: Michelle warms up to the touch and engages the front with tail slightly down. Then she began to bunt the assessor’s hand and purr in place. Reaction to being picked up: She becomes antsy then jumps back into the cage. BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Average Michelle interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for new or experienced cat parents.
