***SAFE 07/14/17***NINE WEEK OLD KITTEN…GREAT BEHAVIOR RATING…MEZZE was brought in by someone who found him on the side of the road and said he was hit by a car. He has some wounds on his forelimb and possible trauma – needs a home and some follow up vetting.

07/11/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Mezze was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Kitten appeared QAR at first, but quickly became BAR once started handling. Hissing. Little restraint required for exam. Allows all body parts to be touched. Warmed up after a bit and started eating wet food well. Heard other kittens meowing, curious, able to focus back on people. ENRICHMENT NOTES: 07/09/17 Sitting crouched towards front of kennel. She perks right up when touched, tail raised as she comes forward to allow more petting. Sweet – doing well today! EVALUATION: Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Mezze was crouched in the back of the back of the cage with his tail wrapped at his side. Reaction when softly spoken to: Mezze seems a little hesitant and doesn’t get up or come forward when coaxed. Reaction to cage door opening: Mezze is alert. Reaction to touch: Meeze watches the assessor and perks up immediately when touched. He purrs softly, leans in for rubs and allows petting all over. He slowly comes forward, gives head butts and appreciates attention. Reaction to being picked up: Mezze was calm, relaxed and allows all handling. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Shy, Affectionate BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Average Mezze interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for new or experienced cat parents.

DVM Intake Exam Estimated age: 2-3 mos Microchip noted on Intake? no History : Found as stray. Surrenderer reports kitten may have been HBC as he found him on the side of the street with blood on him. Brought directly to medical. Subjective: Kitten appeared quiet, facing back of carrier. Eyes bright when carrier top lifted off, able to move. Observed Behavior – Kitten appeared QAR at first, but quickly became BAR once started handling. Hissing. Little restraint required for exam. Allows all body parts to be touched. Warmed up after a bit and started eating wet food well. Heard other kittens meowing, curious, able to focus back on people. Evidence of Cruelty seen – no Evidence of Trauma seen – yes (minor) Objective T = 101.6F P = 200 R = 40-50 BCS 3/9 EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean, kitten is snorty/sniffly – there is a small amount of drying blood around nares and on upper lip Oral Exam: Healthy deciduous dentition PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: wnl; both testicles palpable scrotally MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, there is an approx 1cm area of alopecia lateral aspect left elbow, there is also alopecia and a <1cm superficial wound to the medial aspect left proximal forelimb CNS: mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Rectal: not performed Assessment: Superficial wounds (Suspect secondary to some kind of trauma – possibly HBC). Kitten is otherwise Apparently Healthy and eating well. Plan: Acceptable candidate for adoption or rescue. Placing in medical for 24 hours to monitor. Recheck tomorrow, if doing well can move out of medical. Prognosis: Good SURGERY: Okay for surgery
