***SAFE 11/03/17*** BEGINNER RATED SWEET AND AFFECTIONATE MERCY WANTS TO BE YOUR NEW BEST FRIEND!! BUT SHE NEEDS FOLLOW UP MEDICAL! 10 year old MERCY was dumped at the shelter rather than taken to a vet. Her owner claims he had her for 7 years and now is sick, vomiting and has blood in her stool. Yet rather than seeking vet care, now poor Mercy is at the mercy of the kill shelter. she sits in her kennel and meows constantly – wondering what she did to deserve this. She is calm and allows all handling. Mercy has some dental issues also and needs follow up vet care. I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 25-Oct-2017, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- cannot afford to care for.
Mercy is at risk due to her medical condition. she is a geriatric with possible underlying condition causing emaciation and reported vomiting and diarrhea. She has no known behavior concerns at this time (Behavior determination).

[LVT Intake Exam] Microchip Scan: negative, placed 981020021762967 Evidence of Cruelty: no Observed Behavior: vocal and friendly Sex: intact female Estimated Age: reported 7y but appears older (10y+) Subjective: underweight, slightly dehydrated cat with embedded nails (trimmed and soaked in novalsan solution); owner reported “ill” with “bloody stool” although normal stool seen on intake Eyes: clear Ears: clean Oral Exam: mild to moderate staining Heart: slight abnormal rhythym Lungs: WNL Abdomen: WNL Musculoskeletal: thin frame, 3.5-4/9 Mentation: BARH Preliminary Assessment: older cat, underweight Plan: DVM intake, 25ml SQF given on intake
Patient is vocal but does not seem to be in distress. MMC is pink and CRT <2sec. Evidence of urine in litter box, no defecation. Appears to have eaten a small amount of hard food. No signs of V/D.

Client reports that pt is sick, vomiting green fluid and has bloody stool. Subjective: Alert, sits in kennel and meows constantly Observed Behavior – Calm, allows all handling Objective BAR-H, BCS 3/9, MMs pink EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean, no nasal or ocular discharge noted Oral Exam: Mod-severe tartar with gingivitis, some teeth missing PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: Female MSI: Muscle wasting. Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Rectal: Normal externally. Assessment: 1. Geriatric, underlying condition causing emaciation and reported vomiting and diarrhea 2. Dental disease Prognosis: Poor Plan: Run CBC/chemistry SURGERY: Permanent waiver due to age. 1088
CBC: Hct 41.8%, mild leukocytosis (23.5 k/ul), neutrophilia (19.7 k/ul) Chemistry: BUN 35, creat 1.2. Globulins 5.7, Na 167. Normal liver values. R/O IBD, lymphoma, hyperthryoidism, other. Recommend starting metronidazole 0.4 ml PO BID x7 days, LRS 100 ml SQ SID x5 days. Monitor for diarrhea and vomiting, monitor energy level. 1088

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: Asleep under kuranda bed, took a while to wake up. Lay in place, soft eyes and body, started meowing loudly. Leaned into pets, still meowing. Continued meowing after door closed.

Reaction when softly spoken to:: Mercy remains soft in place.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Mercy stands with tail up, relaxed body posture, soliciting attention.

Reaction to being picked up:: Allows the pickup and remains calm.
