MELLY – A1092371
Gone - 10-22-2016 Brooklyn
***GONE 10/22/16 *** MELLY IS A TWO YEAR LADY WHO IS A BIT NERVOUS AT THE ACC…And wisely so…..MELLY wants to trust people and you can see from her assessment encounters that she is coming along. She really needs a more stable situation out of a scary shelter and someone who will be patient and let her blossom in her own time!! IT DOESN’T TAKE A MIRACLE, JUST SOME TO CARE!! MELLY is publicly adoptable or can be reserved through a rescue!! EITHER WAY, MELLY WINS!!

10/10/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Melly was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. She was tense upon intake and hissed at the counselor when approached. She swiped and growled when the assessor attempted to scan her. She was also nervous during her initial medical exam, growling and displaying distance increasing behaviors to avoid handling. The enrichment facilitator reports she displayed fearful behaviors during their first interaction and looked like she wanted to flee. During their second interaction, she was sitting calmly. She becomes alert when the cage door opens, but remains in place and allows petting with a slow approach. She also allowed to be picked up and held, and seemed more attentive after the interaction. Reaction to assessor: Melly was sitting upright in the middle of her cage, looking and sniffing around. Reaction when softly spoken to: Melly slowly approaches the front and continues to sniff. Reaction to cage door opening: Melly calmly looks at the opening and remains in place. Reaction to touch: Melly sniffs the assessor’s hand and allow petting on her head and body. She arches her back and leans lightly against the assessor’s hand, purring. She continues to look around her surroundings, however, but remains relaxed as the assessor pets her all over. Reaction to pick up: Melly becomes tense and wiggles to get back down. She becomes more alert when placed back down, but will continue to allow petting afterwards. Behavior Determination: Experienced Melly tolerates attention and petting, but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. She may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
