Lying in litterbox, body low and tense. Raises head and avoids eye contact when spoken to. He tolerates petting along his head and body while lowering his head back into his box and tilting his ears. Turns head to smell my hand. Sniffs treats offered but doesn’t eat them – may be too focused on me or environment. Nervous, needs more time to adjust.
06/06/18
Pressed up against the back of the cubby, with his tail wrapped around his body. Lowers head and doesn’t come forward when coaxed. Lip licks and seems hesitant when approached, sniffs his hand, then closes his eyes and shifts his body weight when touched. He slowly warms up over time, leans in for cheek rubs then approaches the front of the kennel with his tail tucked under his body. His body feels slightly tense and he looks around scanning his surroundings. Did better today!
06/07/18
Crouched in back of kennel, ears forward and face tense. He tolerates petting initially while leaning in gently, then stretches and steps forward. Allows further petting while waving his tail in circular motions. Leans in gently but tilts ears and flicks tail again each time I pass my hand along his lower back. Tense today, needs some time to adjust. Didn’t eat treats during interaction – seemed too focused on environment.
