KNOWN HISTORY: Maxine was brought in as a stray, so there is no information on her behavior history or tendencies in a home environment. She attempted to flee during intake, but allowed handling to be conducted. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Subjective: Very vocal and attentive ENRICHMENT NOTES: 10/05/17 At front of kennel, making eye contact and stress meowing with tilted ears. Flattens ears and tolerates petting along head and body, beginning to lean in after a few strokes along the head and body. Conflicted – needs more time to adjust. 10/09/17 Sitting crouched on top of kuranda bed, tail hanging off of the side and head turned to face the wall. She turns and makes eye contact when spoken to and jumps down of her bed. She allows petting along her head and body while leaning in with her shoulders and raising her tail. Tail begins to wave slowly ant the tip as she eats her dry food and kneads her blanket while allowing further petting. Social eater! Did great today. Cage Condition: Cage is re-arranged Reaction to assessor: Maxine was calm and relaxed upon approach. Reaction when softly spoken to: Maxine lies down and rolls over, rubbing her cheeks against her bedding. Reaction to cage door opening: Maxine remains in place and starts to whine. Reaction to touch: Maxine sniffs the assessor’s hand and head-butts right away. She allows gentle strokes on her head and body, but continues to whine. She continues to rub her head against the assessor to solicit attention, but appears somewhat conflicted; her ears tilt sideways and she tenses up at times. She appears wary of her surroundings, and after a few strokes, she nips the assessor’s hand lightly. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Lively Energetic VOCAL: Somewhat chatty CHARACTER TYPE: Affectionate Insistent Timid POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: Pet-induced aggression Potential challenges comments: Initially Maxine solicits petting and attention, but after a few soft passes over the body she whines and nips at the assessor. This may be a sign of petting-induced aggression, where repeated physical contact results in discomfort for the cat. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Maxine becomes reactive. Treats should be used to reward appropriate responses to physical attention. BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: Experienced, adult only Behavior Asilomar TM – Treatable-Manageable BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Maxine solicits attention and tolerates petting but may be wary of her surroundings and dislike repeated petting on her body. Due to her showing conflicted behaviors, we feel that this cat will do best in an adult only home. Recommendations Adoption Recommendations: Comments: Suitability With Children: Other: 10/09/17 Behavior: Adult only
10/09/17 Behavior: Adult only
