Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Max was brought in as a stray, so there is no information on his behavior in his previous home. His finder reports he was left in an abandoned house for two months and was feeding him during this time. They report he will approach them and head rub, but is fearful of loud noises and will hiss when scared. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Observed Behavior – initially mellow, but hissed and growled at end of exam. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is slightly re-arranged Reaction to assessor: Max was lying down by the front, calm and relaxed. Reaction when softly spoken to: Max closes his eyes and ignores the assessor. Reaction to cage door opening: Max lifts his head up and looks at the door. Reaction to touch: Max chirps, but appeared hesitant of touch. He leans back and wraps his tail around his body. He allows gentle petting on his head, but he squints his eyes and shifts away. He scoots his body mid-kennel and places his head back down to rest. When petting is attempted again, his ears tilt sideways and he tolerates petting, but shifts away and places his head down again. He doesn’t appear fearful or nervous, but may prefer to be left alone. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Calm, Independent RECOMMENDATIONS: – Experienced cat parent – Max tolerates attention and petting but may prefer to be left alone. He may need time to warm up to his new home and family. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
