Exam Type BEHAVIOR
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Skittish MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 5/27/17- Observed Behavior – swatting, growling, hissing, vocalizing ENRICHMENT NOTES: 5/28/17- Initially in den. Came out for treats when left alone, but became very tense when cage cover lifted. Eyes dilated, hissed, started to retreat. Sniffed when offered more treats, then retreated further, started lip licking and raised paw as if to swat. Didn’t eat treats in my presence. 5/29/17- In den on approach. Stuck head out when offered treats, eyes fully dilated, very tense. Withdrew almost immediately, started hissing quietly, then struck inside of den. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Max remained tense body, hiding in the cat den during the approach. Reaction to cage door opening: Magikarp becomes alert, pupils dilated, intense gaze at the assessor. Reaction to touch: Magikarp hissed followed by spitting and growls to avoid any contact. BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Max is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. He is stressed in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
