11/14/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – BEGINNER
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Max’s previous owner reports he is unbothered by strangers and is tolerant when pet by them. He is tolerant around children and allows them to pet him. He is gentle with adults and children, and got along well with the cats he lived with. He allows the owner to pick him up and carry him, but may struggle when attempting to place him in a carrier. He was best described as mellow, playful, and affectionate, with a medium activity level. He enjoys lounging around, lying on the owner’s lap, and tends to follow the owner around the home. Reaction to assessor: Max was lying down, calm and relaxed. Reaction when softly spoken to: Max scoots his body closer to the front and rolls over, rubbing his cheeks against his bedding. Reaction to cage door opening: Max gets up and greets the assessor by the opening. Reaction to touch: Max head-butts and nudges the assessor with his head. He begins to purr, his tail quivers, and he walks onto the assessor’s lap, leaning in for more rubs. Reaction to pick up: Max remains calm and continues to purr when held. Max’s previous owner reports he will defecate in the bathroom sink randomly, even when there aren’t any changes in the home. He will still use his litter box to urinate and defecate, however. We are unaware of what, if any, modifications steps were taken to try and address this behavior in the home, so we cannot be sure what the trigger may have been or if this behavior may continue in a future home. However, we recommend that potential adopters be comfortable with management and modification techniques for elimination outside the litterbox should this behavior continue in a home environment. Behavior Determination: Beginner Max interacts with the observer, solicits attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat can go to a beginner home.
