04/09/16 12:58 Basic Information: Max is a 1 and a half year old domestic short hair cat who was surrendered due to his previous owner’s child having allergies. Socialization: Around strangers Max is friendly, outgoing, and plays gently with adults. Max has lived with children ages 10, 8, and 1; around them he is relaxed, affectionate, and plays gently. Max has lived with one other cat; around that cat Max was relaxed, affectionate and played gently. Max has never been around dogs so it is unknown how he would react to them. Max has never bitten another person or animal. Behavior: Max has no behavior issues and is relaxed when he rides in a car. Max is afraid when he is being given a bath. Max enjoys having his nails trimmed, being brushed, being picked up and held, being placed in a carrier, or being disturbed while sleeping For a New Family to Know: Max is described as: friendly, affectionate, playful, confident and quiet with a medium activity level. Max knows how to turn door knobs and open doors. Max enjoys staying in his favorite spot and playing with laser pointers. Max was kept indoors only and was fed dry from the brand Friskies twice a day. Max is litter box trained ad uses a hooded litter box with clumping litter. Max uses a scratching post made of carpet. Intake Behavior: Max growled and swatted at staff and did not allow any handling.

As per previous owner, Around strangers Max is friendly, outgoing, and plays gently with adults. Max has lived with children. Around them he is relaxed, affectionate, and plays gently. Max has lived with one other cat. Around that cat Max was relaxed, affectionate and played gently. Max has never been around dogs so it is unknown how he would react to them. Max is described as friendly, affectionate, playful, confident and quiet with a medium activity leve Our enrichment facilitator has interacted with Max and at the time he was at the back of the cage. Max hisses and swats. He does not allows any contact. Reaction to assessor: Max appears fearful with wide eyes and hissed at the assessor When spoken quietly: Max continues to hiss at the assessor Reaction to door cage opening: Max become stiff and alert Reaction to touch: Max swats when attempting to touch Try picking cat up: Did not attempt Behavior Determination: NewHope Max seems to not be thriving in this environment and at the time of the assessment he was displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room. Max may require further investigation before placement in a home. He currently does not tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
