*** SAFE 04/14/16 ***Poor baby MAX! It’s bad enough the 11 month old had been kicked out of the only home he’s ever known, but the people at the ACC can’t even make up its mind whether MAX is a boy or a girl, since he’s referred to as BOTH! Hrs just a baby and the former owners “personal problems” got in the way so they took the easy way out and DUMPED him. The problem with that is they also put his young life on the by leaving him at a HIGH KILL shelter! He’s going to need an EXPERIENCED new home but he’s willing to work with you if you just give him a chance! FOSTER or ADOPT MAX,he’s just not ready to die…especially for NO REASON!

Exam Type BEHAVIOR
As per previous owner, Max has lived with two adults and no children. He is shy around strangers but will warm up with time. He is gentle when he plays with the adults. He has not been around children to know his behavior around them. He lived with his mother and his three month old siblings. He and his mother are very relaxed and affectionate with each other. He is protective of the kittens when they were first born and would not allow anyone near them. Our enrichment facilitator has interacted with Max and at the time he was resting at the back of the cage. Max was tense with his ears flatten while lip licking. Max tolerates petting all over but was uncomfortable. Reaction to assessor: Max does not come to front but remains neutral When spoken quietly: Max does not come to front but remains neutral Reaction to door cage opening: Max remains motionless Reaction to touch: Max was tense but allows all petting Try picking cat up: Max is tolerant of this type of handling but tense. Behavior Determination: Experience At the time of the assessment Max was displaying timid behavior. Max does not seek attention from the assessor and remains motionless when the kennel was open. I was able to pet him and interact with him in a limited way. I was also able to pick him up and although he was tense no fractious behavior was display. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
