Maude A1116586 is at risk due to behavior. Maude appears neutral when approached for interaction, but she becomes stiff and alert when cage door opens and does not allow petting. She displays distance-increasing behaviors when petting is attempted, growling and hissing.

ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Skittish ENRICHMENT NOTES: 6/27/17-Resting on kuranda bed, eyes dilated, whiskers straight out. Stiffened in place and started hissing when door opened. Flinched away to avoid touch, started growling. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Maude looks neutral, lying down on her cage bedding during the approach. Reaction to cage door opening: Maude remains in place, alert with eyes dilated. Reaction to touch: Maude distance increases growls and hisses at the assessor’s hand. BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Tabby is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. She is stressed in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
