Brooklyn Center

Hello, my name is Matilda. My animal id is #17130. I am a desexed female brown tabby cat at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 9 years old.

I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 28-Dec-2017, with the surrender reason stated as animal behaviour – not good with kids.

Matilda is at risk due to behavior, New Hope Only determination. Matilda can not be placed in adoptions as she is stressed in care center and will attempt to swat. Her only medical concern at this time is that she is overweight and we recommend weight loss.

My medical notes are…

Weight: 13.68 lbs

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful

Potential challenges comments:: Matilda has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and has displayed distance-increasing behavior with extended handling. Fear aggression can occur when a cat perceives a threat and may escalate if they cannot escape. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : New hope only

Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable

RECOMMENDATIONS:: None

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Matilda is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and may require further investigation before placement in a home. She has tried to swat, is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.

    Lovely middle-aged Matilda is a gentle and healthy lady who has been neglected and abandoned by her guardian due to children who may have been rough with her. She deserves a much more loving home. Pledging up to $10 for sweet Matilda.

    These posts make it a long way from where they are originally sent. I live in NS Canada. There is most likely no way to adopt this precious baby from here. I am certainly willing to take her, but have no way to get her here obviously. You hear of some willing to fly animals around the world these days so it never hurts to suggest that you are willing if there is a way & no one else is able to take them in. prayers for a good outcome X’s
