Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Mason was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. He allowed himself to be handled upon intake and did not resist or struggle, but tries to hide when given the chance. He was tense during his initial medical exam and hissed, but allowed all handling to be conducted. Reaction to assessor: Mason was calm and relaxed by the front. Reaction when softly spoken to: Mason looks at the assessor and lip licks. Reaction to cage door opening: Mason retreats to the back of his kennel and blinks. Reaction to touch: Mason lowers his body and attempts to avoid contact, but he allows petting and seems unsure. He warms up slightly and leans in for cheek rubs, but his tail is wrapped closely against his body. Reaction to being picked up: Mason remains calm and allows handling. Behavior Determination: Experience Mason tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. He may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
