*** SAFE 07/16/16 *** BLUSH & MASCARA ARE TWO FRIGHTENED LITTLE LADIES…….MASCARA is so frightened that she is NEW HOPE rated and BLUSH while still frightened, allowed some petting and is EXPNOCHILD and on the public list. Both of these ladies need a kind and patient Purrson to work with them and get them out of their shells….Looks like they’ve had a difficult time of it and are suspicious of people….LIKE MANY CATS, THEY JUST NEED TIME. But that’s the one thing they won’t get at the ACC…..ANOTHER BIG LIST…BLUSH & MASCARA will need strong support to make it past noon tomorrow!! PLEASE APPLY TO FOSTER OR ADOPT….If you need assistance, email [email protected]

07/12/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Mascara was brought in with limited information on her behavior in her previous home. She was born in a home with many other cats. She hissed and spit, and retreated to the back of the carrier upon intake. The counselor tried to pick her up with a towel, but she struggled and attempted to flee and bite. She was also nervous during her initial medical exam and was displaying distance-increasing behaviors. Reaction to assessor: Mascara was huddled by the back, stiff and alert upon approach. Reaction when softly spoken to: Mascara hisses and backs away slightly. She lip licks and blinks afterwards. Reaction to cage door opening: Mascara hisses and remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Mascara hisses and does not allow touch; she leaps away from the assessor’s hand and tries to flee. She is very fearful and continues to attempt to escape the kennel to avoid contact with the assessor. Behavior Determination: New Hope Only Mascara is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. She has tried to swat, is extremely fearful in the shelter environment, and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
