09/09/17 10:25 Basic Information: Mary is a black and white female cat roughly around 2 years old. She was found with her kittens in a basement in the Bronx. Her finder couldn’t keep her due to his allergies to cats and he has dogs already that don’t get along with cats. Behavior During Intake: Mary had wide and very dilated eyes, during the intake of getting her out of her cage she had very deep, elongated meows. With assistance we placed a blanket over her and reached in the cage, once we touched her and picked her up she was quiet and calm

09/12/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow VOCAL: Somewhat chatty CHARACTER TYPE: Curious, Bold, Independent KNOWN HISTORY: Mary was brought in as a stray, so we don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies in a home environment. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 9/11/17- Observed Behavior – growling but allowed most exam parts ENRICHMENT NOTES: 09/11/17 Hisses when approached ad focuses on me with dilated eyes. Grumbles when spoken to, but blinks softly after some time. Sniffs hand when slowly extended, but shifts away to avoid contact, seems unsure. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Mary remains neutral, lying down on her cage bedding during the approach. Reaction when softly spoken to: Mary becomes alert with eyes wide open, ears erect and forward. Reaction to cage door opening: Mary stands up while tail is vertical with a piloerection and hisses. Reaction to touch: Mary quickly engages the assessor’s hand and growls. While attempting to pet she becomes curious then slowly leans into the touch, but remains wary. BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Mary tolerates attention and petting but may be stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home who understands this cat may need time to warm up to her new home and family at her own pace.
