***SAFE 10/20/16*** SECOND CHANCE TONIGHT FOR MARUSYA!! MARUSYA WAS DUMPED WITH A HOUSEMATE FOR “NO TIME” AND A LOAD OF OTHER EXCUSES…..It’s really getting old to hear some of these lame excuses owners give when dumping their cat. MARUSYA was brought in with housemate YSHA – A1091428 who is already gone. The excuse was “no time” but then the owner accuses his cat of litterbox issues. He has one hooded litterbox with 2 cats. Any real cat purrson knows that not all cats like hooded boxes and they especially need changing more often because the box traps the odors. Maybe poor MARYSYA and YSHA’s owner also had “no time” to clean his cat box!! Believe the cat! At the shelter the ACC has now stated that MARUSYA has acclimated well to the shelter environment and is at the front of his cage soliciting attention, purring and for that he rocked an AVERAGE rating. Yet, with the kitty cold, the shelter is going to kill this cat at noon unless a special purrson offers to give him a new home. PLEASE DON’T LET THIS PURRFECTLY WONDERFUL CAT BE KILLED FOR NO REASON AT ALL. OFFER TO ADOPT MARUSYA TONIGHT!!

10/03/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
**UPDATE 10/03/16** Marusya appears to have acclimated well to the shelter environment. He sits softly with soft eyes and remains calm when cage door opened. He would now approach the front of the cage and rubs his head playfully against door. He allows petting all over and purrs softly. He becomes a little tense when picked up (may be due to girth), but rests calmly in the assessor’s arms. Behavior Determination: Average Marusya interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is now showing behavior appropriate for new or experienced cat parents. Date: 09/30/16 As per previous owner, Marusya has never lived with small children and will hide for a few days when strangers come over. He is shy around stranger and will take a few days to warm up to new people. Marusya lived with a spayed cat and usually kept his distance from her. He lived with a small dog and was respectful and kept his distance from the dog. His owners describe him as shy, affectionate and mellow. Marusya hides when he hears loud noises and he likes to play with wands and mice toys. Reaction to assessor: Marusya was relaxed on his blanket facing the assessor. Reaction when softly spoken to: Marusya leans forward to sniff the assessor. Reaction to cage door opening: Marusya lip licks and looks around wary of his surroundings. Reaction to touch: Marusya’s tail flickers, but he slowly leans in for rubs then allows petting all over with a slow approach. After a few soft passes he becomes uncomfortable then whips around and hisses at the assessor. Marusya’s previous owner reports that he was eliminating outside the litterbox. Please note as well that his previous living situation may have contributed to the behavior seen. The owner reports he was having conflicts with another resident cat, which may have caused him to eliminate in areas of the home away from the other cat. We recommend that potential adopters be comfortable with management and modification techniques for elimination outside the litterbox should this behavior continue in a home. Behavior Determination: Experience No Child Marusya tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in a home with experienced cat parents without children.
