MARTIN – A1089699
Safe - 10-7-2016 Brooklyn Rescue: Zani's Please honor your pledges: http://zanisfurryfriends.org/
***SAFE 10/07/16*** SECOND CHANCE FOR FRONT DECLAWED KITTY MARTIN WHO IS NOW OVER HIS COLD – BUT THE ACC IS GOING TO KILL HIM ANYWAY!! Yes, MARTIN got a clean bill of health as of 10/2/16. BUT, the ACC will still kill him because he is still a bit tense and afraid in the shelter and because he has gotten a bad rap from his ex owner! MARTIN’s info is a bit unclear – says he came in as a stray but the reason for surrender is that he “bites people”. That statement can be stretched a bit but it seems MARTIN did have an owner and no information was given as to the circumstances of the “bite” incident. MARTIN however did allow all handling and petting and was given an EXPERIENCE rating for it all. MARTIN IS ALSO FRONT DECLAWED!! MARTIN NEEDS A CAT PURRSON WHO WILL GIVE HIM A CHANCE FOR A NEW HOME AND A NEW LIFE. IF YOU CAN FOSTER OR ADOPT THIS HANDSOME KITTY, PLEASE EMAIL THE HELP DESK AT [email protected] FOR RESCUE INFO. BELIEVE THE CAT IN THIS CASE!!

09/21/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Martin was brought in with limited information on his behavioral tendencies in a home environment. There was an incident with his previous owner, which resulted with a single puncture on the owner’s left leg. Details about the previous incident, including trigger, warning signs, and severity are unknown. He was alert and by the front of his carrier during intake, and also allowed the counselor to handle him. However, when trying to place him back inside his carrier he became agitated and began to hiss and growl. He resisted handling during his initial medical exam and displayed distance-increasing behaviors. Reaction to assessor: Martin was lying down by the back, calm and relaxed. Reaction when softly spoken to: Martin looks at the assessor with almond-shaped eyes and blinks softly. Reaction to cage door opening: Martin becomes slightly alert, but remains relaxed. Reaction to touch: Martin sniffs the assessor’s hand and head-butts lightly. He warms up and leans in for petting and begins to purr. He walks over to his food afterwards and starts to eat, but would arch his back as the assessor continues to pet him. Reaction to being picked up: Martin remains calm when held, and calmly jumps back inside. Behavior Determination: Experienced Martin interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. His behavior in the care center has been social and tolerant, and he demonstrates behavior appropriate for cat parents with an average amount of experience, however, due to a bite incident with his previous owner and his willingness to strike out to avoid handling in certain situations, we do recommend an adopter with some cat experience.
