BEHAVIOR:
KNOWN HISTORY:
Mars was timid upon intake and didn’t allow handling.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:
a little timid/shy, but allows exam and handling with minimal restraint.
ENRICHMENT NOTES:

Lying in front of kennel, body tense and ears tilted. Tolerates petting along head and body while looking around the room and staying still. Nervous. Needs more time to adjust.
EVALUATION:
Cage Condition: Cage is neat
Reaction to assessor: Mars was crouched and alert on top the kuranda bed.
Reaction when softly spoken to: Mars focuses on the assessor, lip licks and was reluctant to come forward when coaxed.
Reaction to cage door opening: Mars is tense and alert.
Reaction to touch: Mars backs away slowly, looks around the kennel and tries to avoid the assessor. He’s unsure but leans forward to sniff the assessor and tolerates slow, gentle pets on his head. After a few minutes of attention he starts to relax then rests his head against the assessor’s hand when rubbed on his cheeks.
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back
VOCAL: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: Timid
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Experienced cat parent – Mars may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parent
ENRICHMENT:
09/14/17
Lying in front of kennel, body tense and ears tilted. Tolerates petting along head and body while looking around the room and staying still. Nervous. Needs more time to adjust. Sprayed feliway.
09/18/17
Sitting crouched in back of kennel. He stands up and stretches as I open the kennel door, then backs away as I reach forward. Shy and conflicted. He moves as if to retreat through his portal again, but comes back forward when I place down some treats. He leans in for petting and gives my hand a gently head-butt. Warms up more with continued interaction, comes forward with tail raised and leans in. Allows all petting for remainder of the session. Beginning to warm up – did well today!
