MARIO aka MINCHY – A1065738
Safe - 9-17-2017 Brooklyn Rescue: Feline Rescue of SI Please honor your pledges: http://felinerescueofstatenisland.org/donation/
**SAFE 09/17/2017** MARIO was adopted from the ACC last year, after his original owners decided their home was too small to handle a cat. Now he’s been returned by his second “owners” because they failed to deal with his litter box issues, which caused a urethral obstruction. Ouch! Where are all the normal, dedicated, loving cat owners who could take care of this guy? Someone MUST step up for MARIO, tonight!

09/13/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Lived Indoors Previously lived with: Adults Behavior toward strangers: Shy at first but warms up and solicits attention Behavior toward children: Tolerant and plays gently Behavior toward cats: Unknown Behavior toward dogs: Unknown Bite or Scratch history: None Litter box training: He’s been having litter box accidents (urinating & defecating) for the last few months Energy level/descriptors: Shy and independent Other notes: He doesn’t mind being brushed, held or being put in a carrier MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Allows all handling EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Mario was hunched over at the back of the kennel. Reaction when softly spoken to: Mario lifts his head up to look at the assessor but he doesn’t come forward when coaxed. Reaction to cage door opening: Mario remains calm. Reaction to touch: Mario sniffs the assessor’s hand and allows the assessor to gently pet him on his head and along his body. He appreciates attention, remains calm and enjoys being rubbed on his neck and cheeks. His body feels a bit tense and he occasionally grumbles but he doesn’t display any further reaction. Reaction to being picked up: Mario was a bit tense when picked up, but he remains calm and allows all handling. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Calm, Sweet POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: Inappropriate elimination – Mario previous owner reports that he was eliminating (urinating and defecating) outside the litter box for the past few months, but we are unaware of what, if any, modification steps were taken to try and address this behavior. Please note as well that Mario has been diagnosed with and is being treated for a Urethral Obstruction and Dehydration in the care center, which may be influencing the urination behavior. We cannot be sure whether this behavior will continue in a home environment after treatment for the medical condition has been completed, but we recommend that potential adopters be comfortable with management and modification techniques for elimination outside the litter box should this behavior continue in a home environment. Please note that this cat has a severe medical condition so we may not be seeing any true behavior and behavior may change when the cat’s medical condition improves.
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Average Mario appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for new or experienced cat parents.
