**SAFE 02/08/16***MALIAH! What a cutie!! This 8 year old female tortie cat was brought into the shelter because her owner died. After her owner died, a neighbor took her in. Unfortunately the neighbor couldn’t keep this pretty girl, so she’s on the shelter’s euthanasia list tonight. MALIAH was at first distrustful of the staff at the shelter but after a little while she allowed herself to relax a bit and be pet. All this sweetheart needs is an experienced owner who can get to know her slowly and remind her that humans are loving and kind. This poor girl probably feels abandoned and doesn’t know what’s going on! She would be best in an experienced home with no children. She is fearful in the shelter environment but has the potential to warm up and become a wonderful fur-friend!!! This adorable tortie is full of potential and purrs. Please take MALIAH into your home and into your heart today!!

Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Maliah was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. She belonged to the finder’s neighbor, who recently passed away. The finder has been feeding her for about a week. Maliah was very fearful upon intake. She backed away initially, but after given a moment allowed light petting. She became defensive during her initial medical exam. Reaction to assessor: Maliah was resting upon approach. Reaction when softly spoken to: Maliah becomes stiff and alert, looking around with dilated eyes. Reaction to cage door opening: Maliah remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Maliah becomes tense and breathes rapidly, but sniffs the assessor’s hand and allows gentle petting on her head. She relaxes a bit, but hisses when pet on her back and lip licks. Behavior Determination: Experience No Child Maliah tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in a calm, quiet home with experienced cat parents and without children.
