Marked Leukocytosis (51) characterised by a neutrophilia (44) and monocytosis (0.73) – Infectious vs inflammatory response
CHEMISTRY
Mild hyperglycemia (189) – Stress vs Diabetes
Marked increased in BUN (100), moderate increase in phosph (12.3) – Azotemia – R/O pre renal, renal, post renal vs muscle wasting vs diet
TP elevated (10) and hyperglobulinemia (7.2) – inflammation (infectious vs inflammatory)
T4 Normal
Assessment –
Marked WBC increase- R/O infection (e.g. pyometra, sepsis)
Prognosis: poor
Plan:
– Begin IVF @ 2.5 x maintenance (10ml/hr) for 12 hrs then reduce to 1.5 x maintenance (8ml/hr)
– Unasyn 30mg/kg IV TID for 5 days – 50mg (1.6 ml of a 30mg/ml solution) IV SLOWLY
