MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:
06/06/18
Timid, allows exam
ENRICHMENT NOTES:
06/05/18
Lying in back of kennel, body low and tense. Makes eye contact when spoken to. Tolerates petting along head and body with the bear-claw while tilting ears and maintaining eye contact.
06/06/18
Tense, lying down completely flat across the back of the kennel. Ears bend flat, seems very wary of surroundings. Leans away and lip licks when I extend my hand out. Flinches when touched, but tolerates attention. Food motivated- loves tuna, was able to coax him forward. Did some clicker training. Rewarded when he sniffed my hand. Did well, stayed near the front of the cage and allowed full body contact. Needs more time to adjust.
06/10/18
Resting by the back, blinks sleepily when coaxed. Sniffs hand when extended but lowers head and watches hand when pet along body. Wraps tail along body and ears helicopter, but is tolerant and eventually leans in for cheek and chin rubs. Still tense, but eats treats when offered and pauses to look around from time to time.
06/11/18
Lying in back of kennel, body and face tense. Tail is wrapped around feet. Avoids eye contact when spoken to. He tolerates petting along his head and body while flattening his hears and turning his head slowly to watch my hand. Eats a couple of treats but then becomes too focused on me and environment to eat the remainder of them. Nervous, needs more time to adjust.
06/12/18
Low body posture, near the back of the kennel. Tense, turns head to make eye contact. Tried clicker training to get him to come his shell. Rewarded with tuna when he accepted gentle pets. Did well, came all the way to the front of the kennel. Raises rear when rubbed on the base of his tail. Doing great today!
06/13/18
Lying down by the back, lip licking. Sniffs hand when extended slowly, tolerates petting but leans head away. Will slowly come forward when treats are offered, rewarded each time petting was allowed. Not brave enough to come all the way to the front, but was receptive to attention. Needs more positive reinforcement.
06/14/18
Low body posture at the back of the kennel. Lifts head up, and sniffs when I extend my hand out. Comes forward when coaxed with treats. Clicker trained with tuna when he allowed petting. Did well! He arches his body, gently head butts and appreciates attention. A bit wary of his surroundings, retreats when someone walks by the kennel.
06/16/18
Lying down underneath the kuranda bed, perks up when I open the cage door. He leans forward to sniff hand, closes eyes when rubbed on cheeks. Did a little clicker training, reward with treats when he steps forward and solicits attention. Did well. Much more relaxed today.
06/17/18
Resting under kuranda bed with cover. Slowly gets up to sniff hand and arches body when pet, but wraps tail tightly on body. Continued to clicker train, rewarding each time he inched forward, sniffed hand, or head-butt lightly. Did well, but still prefers to hang by the back. Will slowly inch forward to eat treats left by the front of kennel. Shy and timid cat, but very sweet.
06/19/18
Eating dry food at the front of the kennel. Moves towards the back of the kennel when the door opens. Sniffs hand, leans in when rubbed on cheeks. His tail rises up and he arches his body when pet along his back. Gives gentle head butts. Comes forward when coaxed with treats. Seems much more relaxed today. Was a bit tense when picked up, but he allowed all handling.
06/20/18
Curious, inches forward when coaxed with treats. Tail lifts up when pet along his back. Closes eye and leans in when rubbed on cheek. Did well during clicker training session. He stayed at the front of the kennel for most of the interaction. Seems more confident today. Doing well!
06/21/18
Sitting down underneath his bed, with his paws folded under his body. He perks up when I offer him treats. Continued clicker training. Warms up quickly and solicits attention. Comes forward when coaxed with treats. Leans in when rubbed on cheeks, tail lifts up. Doing good.

A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
