*** SAFE 07/08/16 ***Remember back in the day, when the ACC needed to have a reason to kill animals in their so-called “care,” and killing for space wasn’t enough of a reason? Well, they took their bag of tricks, gave it a good shake, and some curious new rules came slithering out. One of those rules is that the ACC can kill a cat just because said cat earns an EXPNOCHILD rating on their behavioral evaluation. A behavioral evaluation, by the way, that’s based on an evaluation for DOGS, which is NOT meant for cats, and which is NOT meant to be used when deciding which animals to kill, and which animals to try to place. The ACC holds all the cards and it’s cats like MADELINE who pay with their lives. MADELINE is guesstimated to be about 3 years old and her excellent manners were definitely on display when she was being scooped up by the person who betrayed her, and also during the beginning of her short time at the ACC. It didn’t take long for her to realize the grave danger she’s in, and her response to that danger has contributed to her EXPNOCHILD rating. Which has contributed to her scheduled death tomorrow, because read her medical notes—this cat does not seem to be sick. (Yes, there is another rule where the ACC can kill a cat because she is sick) The system these cats are dying under, is ridiculously weighted against them. MADELINE needs a foster/adopter to save her life, tonight!

06/26/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
06/26/16 20:11 Madeline is an adult or senior female DSH cat. She was found wandering outside by herself near the street. Her finder reports that she was friendly with her and allowed her to put her in a carrier and bring her here. Madeline had a soft body in her carrier, as she walked around and sniffed the counter, and while I pet her, scanned her (-), collared her, and positioned her for pictures. She rubbed her head against me hand. She ate wet food quickly and followed it into her carrier. She didn’t resist, retreat, or vocalize.

06/29/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Reaction to assessor: Madeline looks neutral, crouched position on her cage bedding when approached by the assessor. Reaction to door opening: Madeline remains in place, relaxed body posture, alert with soft eyes. Reaction to touch: Madeline accepts the touch on the head then began to roll over during the petting. However, she becomes agitated when touched along the back then hisses and swats at the assessor’s hand. Placement determination: Experience / no child Madeline tolerates attention and petting but may be stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in a calm, quiet home with experienced cat parents and without children.
