Hello, my name is Maddox. My animal id is #12891. I am a desexed male orange tabby cat at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 4 years 1 weeks old. – P

Maddox is at risk for behavior concerns (Experience adult only determination). His has been fearful in care center and has displayed distance-increasing behavior. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.

Details on my behavior are…
Behavior Condition: 3. Yellow
KNOWN HISTORY:: Maddox was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: BAR. Tense in cage, tries to flee
Cage Condition:: Cage is slightly re-arranged
Reaction to assessor:: Maddox was tense and curled up tight on top the kuranda bed.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Maddox lip licks then slowly turns his head away from the assessor.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Maddox hissed then slowly shifted away.
Reaction to touch:: Maddox lip licks, his eyes dart around the kennel and he starts breathing rapidly when approached by the assessor. He flinches when touched but tolerates gentle petting on his head and body. He seems very uncomfortable and isn’t confident enough to come forward.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Laid back
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Skittish,Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful
Potential challenges comments:: Maddox has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and may dislike certain types of handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experienced, adult only
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
RECOMMENDATIONS:: None
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Maddox tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
