***SAFE 04/13/17*** Have you seen this cutie, Mackie’s adorable little white mustache?! We’re in love with it here at BACC, and we just know his forever family will fall in love too! This shy guy would be most comfortable in an experienced, adult-only home where he can have time to relax and adjust at his own pace. Mackie is perfectly healthy and only 6 months old!

04/07/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Mackie was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Nervous, tried to flee, tried to scratch. Limited exam done in net ENRICHMENT NOTES: 04/05/17 Nervous little kitten. Frozen at the back, remained immobile when I approached her. Tense/stiff body when pet on her head. Needs some time to adjust. Not open to interacting yet. Gave him some treats and sprayed feliway. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage recently cleaned Reaction to assessor: Mackie keeps his body lowered in his litter box at the back of the kennel. Reaction when softly spoken to: Mackie’s ears perk up and he focuses his attention on the assessor but doesn’t get up or come forward when coaxed. Reaction to cage door opening: Mackie remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Mackie’s eyes dart around and he remains frozen in place when the assessor extends his hand out. He closes his eyes when touched and tolerates petting along his body with a slow approach. He seems easily startled and takes some time to warm up to touch. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Skittish POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: Fearful – Mackie has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and may dislike certain types of handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced, adult home only – Mackie tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home who understands this cat may need time to warm up to his new home and family at his own pace.
