SAFE 6/24/18 *NEEDS VET CARE ASAP* 5-Week-Old Cutie Macaw Has Possible Leg Fracture @BACC. Client came in with a stray kitten they found in their backyard last night. The kitten is not bearing weight on his back left leg and the leg is swollen.

History: Client came in with a stray kitten they found in their backyard last night. The kitten is not bearing weight on his back left leg and the leg is swollen.
Subjective: Kitten is QARH, reported to be eating on own
Observed Behavior – curls up on towel on exam table, allows all handling with minimal to no restraint
Evidence of Cruelty seen – no
Evidence of Trauma seen – yes

R = wnl
BCS 4-5/9
EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean, no nasal or ocular discharge noted
Oral Exam: Healthy deciduous dentition; mm-pink, moist
PLN: No enlargements noted
H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupnic
ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated
U/G: male, wnl – bladder is small and soft
MSI: Swelling LHL – kitten is NWB, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat
CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities
Rectal: not performed
Assessment: Underage/underweight, Conjunctivitis, and Lameness hind limbs (suspect salter-harris fx)
Prognosis:
Fair
Plan: Recommend NH placement. Flushed OU with eye wash and applied Erythromycin. Starting Clavamox drops – 0.15mls PO q12h x 10d; gave first dose. Gave 0.08mls Simbadol SQ – repeat q24h x 3d. Took VD frog leg of pelvis and lateral radiographs of LHL – difficult to assess due to age of kitten (open physes), but there appear to be abnormalities in both hind limbs proximal to stifle.
