I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 20-Feb-2018, with the surrender reason stated as animal behaviour – not house trained.

[DVM Intake] DVM Intake Exam Estimated age: 12yo Microchip noted on Intake? neg Microchip Number (If Applicable): History : O surrender due to litter box issues (goes out of the litter box) and aggression towards other people in the house (growls, hisses, and bites) Subjective: BAR. Needed to restrain p in net. Growling, hissing, swatting, loud vocalization. Limited PE due to behavior. Observed Behavior – Evidence of Cruelty seen – n Evidence of Trauma seen – n Objective T = P = wnl R = eup BCS 5/9 EENT: Eyes clear, no nasal or ocular discharge noted Oral Exam: unable to examine PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, Lungs clear, eupnic. Difficult to auscult due to being in net and growling. U/G: FS. Urinated during PE, hematuria. MSI: Ambulatory x 4, no ectoparasites seen, healthy hair coat CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Assessment: approx 12 yo FS DSH Geriatric Hematuria — r/o UTI vs calculi vs neoplasia vs other Prognosis: good pending cause of hematuria Plan: Convenia 0.4mL SQ for possible UTI If hematuria does not resolve, consider 2 view AXR and bloodwork, p will likely need to be sedated due to behavior.

Upon intake Luna Girl did not allow any handling. she was hissing, swatting and growling. She did not allow collaring and a picture had to be taken inside of the carrier.

Basic Information:: Luna Girl is a roughly 12 year old cat whom was gotten from a friend and kept in the same home for about 10 years. unfortunately due to litter box accidents and behavioral issues she could not be kept.

How is this cat around strangers?: Around strangers she is described as shy for a few days, occasionally reactive and doesn’t play.
How is this cat around children?: Around children she is described as tolerant and doesn’t play

How is this cat around dogs?: She has not been socialized with dogs so this behavior is unknown.
Behavior Notes: Luna Girl is a cat whom will scratch furniture and have daily litter box accidents. She will hiss, swat and bite when attempting to give a bath, having her nails trimmed, being picked up and held, being brushed and being placed in a carrier.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: 2/20/18 Subjective: BAR. Needed to restrain p in net. Growling, hissing, swatting, loud vocalization. Limited PE due to behavior.
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 2/21/18 Hematuria. Extremely agitated, started loudly hissing, growling and snorting on approach. Screamed and charge front when cage cover lifted. Ate treats wen left alone. Responded well to slow blinking, repeatedly blinked back, posture softened. 2/22/18 By the front, stress meowing and hissing. Unable to interact, she attempts to reach out of the cage door to swat.

Reaction to assessor:: Luna Girl remains neutral, resting on her cage bedding during the approach.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Luna Girl she becomes alert, lifts up head with eyes wide open.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Luna Girl began to hiss and growl, ears erect and forward.
Reaction to touch:: Luna Girl focuses on the assessor’s hand while hissing and growling, but with a slow approach she accepts the touch on the head. When attempting to move along her back she strikes stopping the interaction.

She is stressed in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
