LUNA – A1080656
Gone - 7-20-2016 Brooklyn
**GONE 07/20/16** DECLAWED, SPAYED and BETRAYED, this senior lady has been tossed into a high-kill shelter by the very same people who adopted her from another shelter when she was a KITTEN! That was 14 years ago, and since then, they have never taken her to a vet according to their own admission…although at some point, the spay and declaw surgery must have been successfully completed. These same people say the reason they were taking her to the bloodthirsty ACC was that Luna “for 3 years has been soiling the owner’s bed.” But the very next statement was, “She only uses her open litter box to defecate,” so they possibly just chose any old excuse to walk away from this beautiful, sensitive girl who counted on them. Luna is said to have lived with children and she’s earned an EXPERIENCE rating at the shelter. Please fight hard to find a foster/adopter for LUNA, tonight!

Her favorite cat food is Friskies & Purina dry food. BEHAVIOR DURING INTAKE During intake Luna was fearful. Her body was tense and meowed when she was in the carrier. 07/12/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
As per previous owner, Luna is a shy cat and is startled easily. She flees & hides with loud noises. She also meows in fear. Luna hides when strangers and children are around. Luna has been soiling the previous owner’s bed. She only uses her open litter box to defecate. Sometimes Luna chews the sofa’s cushions. Reaction to assessor: Luna does not come to front but remains neutral When spoken quietly: Luna does not come to front but remains neutral Reaction to door cage opening: Luna remains motionless Reaction to touch: Luna seems indifferent to my presence and touch Try picking cat up: Luna is tolerant of this type of handling. Luna previous owner reports that she was eliminating outside the litterbox, but we are unaware of what, if any, modification steps were taken to try and address this behavior. Please note as well that Luna’s previous living situation may have contributed to the behavior seen. We cannot be sure whether this behavior will continue in a different home environment, but we recommend that potential adopters be comfortable with management and modification techniques for elimination outside the litterbox should this behavior continue in a home environment. We also recommend that Luna be provided with numerous litterboxes throughout the house as she adjusts to her new living space. The extra boxes can be removed as she learns the space and successfully defecates in her main litterbox. Behavior Determination: Experience At the time of the assessment Luna was displaying fearful behavior; does not seek attention from the assessor and becomes alert when the kennel was open. Remains motionless as I started to get closer but after a steady slow approach using soft voices she relaxed a little and I was able to pet her and interact with her in a limited way. I was also able to pick her up and although she was tense no fractious behavior was display. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
