***SAFE 10/20/17*** LOVELY LUNA LOST HER HOME TO ALLERGIES – NOW SHE NEEDS YOU TO HELP HER NOT LOSE HER LIFE!! LUNA was abruptly dumped at the shelter. She is naturally upset at losing her home and will need a little extra TLC to help her relax and regroup. LUNA is 4 yrs old and would love to be back in a loving home. SHE NEEDS TO BE RESERVED THROUGH A NEW HOPE RESCUE BY NOON!!
Hello, my name is Luna. My animal id is #8487. I am a female black cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks i am about 4 years 1 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 01-Oct-2017, with the surrender reason stated as person health – allergies.

Luna is at-risk with a NHO determination. She displays fearful behavior in the shelter and does not appear to be thriving. She focuses on the person when approached for interaction and has a tense posture. She does not currently allow petting at this time and will swat to avoid contact.

Next Test Date: KNOWN HISTORY: Luna was brought in with limited information on their behavioral history or tendencies in a home environment. ENRICHMENT NOTES: 10/2/17 Curled up at back next to litter box, eyes wide and dilated, whiskers straight, extremely tense. Started hissing and lip licking when door opened. Left alone for now. Sprayed feliway. 10/3/17 Crouched in litter box, extremely tense, eyes dilated. Put ears sideways when door opened, eyes dilated even further. Seemed really scared. Leaned away from attempted touch, then hissed and swatted assess-a-hand. Sprayed feliway. 10/4/17 Crouched on top of kuranda bed today, eyes fully dilated, tense posture. Flattened ears when door opened. Sniffed assess-a-hand, flinched and hissed when touched. Sprayed feliway. Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Luna remains neutral, resting on her cage bedding during the approach. Reaction when softly spoken to: Luna becomes alert with eyes wide open. Reaction to cage door opening: Luna stiffens up in place, ears erect and forward. Reaction to touch: Luna avoids contact, hisses with ears flat to the side, and growls at the assessor’s hand to stop the interaction. Reaction to being picked up: Unable to perform do to behavior. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Bold Independent POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: None BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: New hope only Behavior Asilomar TM – Treatable-Manageable RECOMMENDATIONS: None BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Luna is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. She is stressed in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
