Manhattan Center
Hello, my name is Luann. My animal id is #19063. I am a female smoke calico cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years old. – P
I came into the shelter as a aco impound on 24-Jan-2018, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- moving.
Luann is at risk for behavior reasons. Luann is very nervous in the shelter, displaying warning signals on approach and allowing minimal handling. Medically, Luann is underweight and has not been eating well in the care center. This may be stress related, or may be indicative of an underlying gastric issue.
My medical notes are…
Weight: 8 lbs

Fractious and stressed on intake, does not allow much handling; did take some treats from cat behavior staff S/O -QAR, hiding in feral den, hissing and growling -no obvious appetite -no nasal discharge or sneezing -increased resp rate but normal effort, likely stress related A 1. Inappetant-r/o behavioral vs metabolic vs GI P -entice to eat -monitor for improvement in behavior, appetite -consider CBC/chem if inappetant persists but will likely require sedation for any diagnostics or treatment

Details on my behavior are…
Behavior Condition: 4. Orange
Cat was swatting and hissing upon pickup, use caution
KNOWN HISTORY:: Luann was brought in as a stray, so we don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies in a home environment.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: 1/24/18 Observed Behavior – growling, towel restraint
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 1/25/18 In den on approach, started hissing when door opened. Poked head out when offered treats, tense posture, eyes fully dilated. Ate a few treats, very hesitant, continually withdrawing into den and peeking out again. Started grumbling after door closed. Covered cage. 1/29/18 Hisses when approached and charges and strikes when cage cover is lifted. Not open to interaction today and continuously displays distance-increasing behavior, trying to bite and scratch.
Cage Condition:: No change
Reaction to assessor:: Luann began to hiss and growl, hiding in the cat den during the approach.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Luann remains cautious with pupils dilated, focusing.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Luann remains in place with ears erect and forward.
Reaction to touch:: Luann seems curious and slowly sniffs the assessor’s hand then quickly retreats. During the attempt to pet she comes out half way from the den and began to head bunt, but is hesitant and retreats for the second time. After she paws the hand with no claws to stop the interaction.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Laid back
VOCAL:: Somewhat chatty
CHARACTER TYPE: : Shy ,Curious,Independent
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experienced, adult only
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Luann may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home who understands this cat may need time to warm up to her new home and family at her own pace.
