Lua was vocal and friendly upon intake.
BEHAVIOR:
KNOWN HISTORY
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:
BAR, but very nervous and shaking
ENRICHMENT NOTES:
05/31/17
Standing in litter box. He lowers his body and hisses as I reach towards him. Warms up immediately when touched, begins purring and raising his tail. Allows petting along his head and body while leaning in and purring. Very silly. Remains relaxed when picked up and continues to purr.
EVALUATION:
Cage Condition: Cage is re-arranged
Reaction to assessor: Lua was hiding underneath the bogus paper at the back of the cage.
Reaction when softly spoken to: Lua shifts around underneath the paper and doesn’t come forward when coaxed.
Reaction to cage door opening: Lua remains tense and hidden.
Reaction to touch: Lua flinches and lip licks when the assessor pulls back the paper to interact with him. His eyes widen, he curls up and starts shaking when pet on his head. He lowers his body, avoiding the assessor’s hand then retreats to the other side of the kennel and curls up in his litter box. He’s timid but accepts soft, gentle pets along his body and slowly starts to warm up with attention.
Reaction to being picked up: Lua was a bit tense when picked up and curls up in the assessor’s arms. He stays in place and continues lip licking.
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back
VOCAL: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: Timid, Shy
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:
Kitten socialization – Lua is a young cat that may not have had many interactions with humans from an early age. He may be apprehensive of people, but the behavior team believes he has potential to warm up to people. Kittens less than 8 weeks of age can be socialized by almost anyone; however, kittens between 2-4 months may require more time and skill in order for them to be comfortable around people. Please speak to an adoption counselor to learn more about socialization techniques.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Experienced cat parent – Lua may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
