07/10/2017 PET PROFILE MEMO
07/10/17 11:24 Lowkey is described by his owners as being shy and aloof at home. He is not accepting of strangers petting him at first, but after some time he allows for handling. When being engaged by the other cat in the home he will give a warning hiss when he has had enough, and then will walk away. He does not enjoy attention from children and owners stated he would be a good fit for a house with no other pets. Lowkey will struggle when being bathed and having his nails clipped, but has a relaxed body when being groomed. His owners said he has a low activity level, mostly laying around the house. He enjoys spending time in the same room as family but will not engage in playful behavior. He eats both wet and dry food but can be picky at times. He prefers a variety of wet food to keep his interest. He has good litterbox habbits, using a hooded box with clay litter. He would benefit from a scratching post as he likes to scratch wood and the furniture. Lowkey remained hunched on the table when counselor tried to collar him, and began hissing when she approached. Lowkey was extremely difficult to get into a carrier as he would not allow counselors near him, hissing but not swatting or biting.

ENRICHMENT NOTES: 07/11/17 Lying in back of kennel with a low, tense body, ears tilted. He watches the bear-claw as it approaches and swats at a couple of times – short quick swats – while hissing. Very uncomfortable after first day. Needs more time to adjust. 07/12/17 Sitting crouched towards front of kennel, eyes focused on me. He watches as I unlock the kennel door and sniffs the treats I place by him. Hisses as the bear-claw moves towards him and gives it two hard swats before it can reach him, knocking it out of the way. Ate treats after I locked door and walked away. Needs more time to adjust. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is slightly re-arranged Reaction to assessor: Lowkey was curled up in his litter box with his tail wrapped at his side. Reaction when softly spoken to: Lowkey shifts around, becomes focused on the assessor and hisses when spoken to softly. Reaction to cage door opening: Lowkey is tense and alert Reaction to touch: Lowkey arches his back, hisses and displays distance increasing when approached. He shifts away to the back of the cage and currently doesn’t allow any handling. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Skittish RECOMMENDATIONS: Placement with a New Hope partner – Lowkey is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and may require further investigation before placement in a home. He has tried to swat, is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Partner is the best option at this time.
