05/15/17 20:02 Love Muffin was brought to ACC as a stray. Love Muffin was very shy and it took five minutes of soft whispering and gentle pets to get Love Muffin to become relaxed enough to peek his head outside of the carrier. Wet food did not get Love Muffin to come out. Staff was able to collar, and photograph, but Love Muffin ran back into the carrier as soon as the picture was taken.

05/18/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Love Muffin was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. Lived Indoors MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Growled during restraint but allows all handling ENRICHMENT NOTES: 05/16/17 At front of kennel eating when I approach. He vocalizes softly when spoken to, head-butting the kennel door. Allows petting along his head and body, leaning in while low to the floor and tail wrapped around him. Nervous after first day, but sweet. Has potential to warm up. Remained soft and allowed all petting for duration of session. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage recently cleaned Reaction to assessor: Love Muffin was at the back of the kennel grooming himself. Reaction when softly spoken to: Love Muffin hissed, tensed up then slowly inched away. Reaction to cage door opening: Love Muffin hissed and became very focused on the assessor’s hand. Reaction to touch: Love Muffin lip licked and leaned away slightly when the assessor extended his hand out. He accepts touch and slowly warms up when rubbed on his head and cheeks. His tail starts swaying and he seems a little uncomfortable when pet along his back. When I rubbed him at the base of his tail he whipped around, hissed and stayed focused on my hand. Reaction to being picked up: Love Muffin was tense when picked up, then got antsy and leaped away. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow VOCAL: Somewhat chatty CHARACTER TYPE: Timid, Affectionate RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced, adult home only – Love Muffin tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. He may have some behavioral issues that will need to be addressed in the home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
